In a proactive move to enhance disaster preparedness during the ongoing monsoon season, the District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA), Shimla, has stationed a 30-member National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) team in the district for the next three months.

The specialized rescue unit has been deployed at the APMC complex in Dhali and will remain operational until September 30, aiming to provide swift assistance during emergencies such as landslides, flash floods, road blockages, and structural damage caused by heavy rainfall.

A coordination meeting involving NDRF officers and district administration officials was held on Wednesday under the chairmanship of Additional District Magistrate (Protocol), Shimla, Jyoti Rana. The meeting focused on strengthening emergency response mechanisms and ensuring seamless coordination among various agencies during potential disaster situations.

Officials discussed strategies for rapid rescue operations, resource mobilization, communication networks, and inter-departmental cooperation to improve the district’s overall disaster management capabilities throughout the monsoon period.

Addressing the meeting, Jyoti Rana emphasized that the district administration remains on high alert and is fully prepared to tackle any emergency arising from adverse weather conditions.

She instructed the NDRF personnel to maintain close coordination with the police department, fire and emergency services, and other concerned agencies to facilitate timely rescue and relief efforts whenever required.

The administration has also intensified monitoring of vulnerable and disaster-prone locations across the district. Residents have been advised to stay updated with weather alerts issued by the Meteorological Department and follow official advisories issued by the district administration.

Citizens have been urged to immediately report any emergency or unusual situation to the District Disaster Control Room or nearby administrative authorities to ensure prompt assistance.

With monsoon-related incidents posing recurring challenges in the hilly regions of Himachal Pradesh, the deployment of the NDRF team is expected to significantly strengthen Shimla’s disaster response framework and improve preparedness against natural calamities.
