In a historic move, Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu is set to become the first Chief Minister of the state to stay overnight in Bara-Bhangal, one of the most remote and inaccessible villages in Himachal Pradesh, located in Kangra district.
The Chief Minister’s visit on Saturday carries both symbolic and administrative significance as he is expected to assess the damage caused by last year’s devastating flash floods and review the progress of ongoing restoration and rehabilitation works in the tribal region.
Chief Minister to Review Flood Damage and Development Works
During his visit, CM Sukhu will inspect the micro-hydel power project that supplies electricity to Bara-Bhangal, a village inhabited by nearly 600 residents. He is also scheduled to interact with local residents and listen to their concerns regarding infrastructure, healthcare, education, and connectivity.
The visit comes nearly a year after flash floods in the Ravi River caused extensive destruction in the village, washing away government buildings, administrative offices, footbridges, irrigation channels, and other essential public infrastructure.
Officials believe the Chief Minister’s presence in the region reflects the government’s commitment to ensuring development reaches even the most isolated communities of the state.
Bara-Bhangal: One of Himachal’s Most Isolated Villages
Situated at an altitude of around 3,000 metres in the Dhauladhar mountain range, Bara-Bhangal remains among the toughest settlements to access in Himachal Pradesh.
The village has no motorable road connectivity and can only be reached after a challenging multi-day trek through mountainous terrain from Kangra, Chamba, or Manali. During the winter season, heavy snowfall cuts off the village from the rest of the state for several months, making air sorties the only option for emergency access.
Residents have long demanded better road connectivity, improved healthcare services, quality education facilities, and stronger communication networks to reduce the hardships caused by prolonged isolation.
