The Congress party has finally announced its district leadership appointments for Kinnaur and Shimla Rural, ending months of uncertainty that had persisted due to internal disagreements within the state unit.

The appointments were approved by All India Congress Committee (AICC) President Mallikarjun Kharge, who named Nigam Bhandari as the new President of the District Congress Committee (DCC) in Kinnaur and Hari Krishan Himral as the President of the Shimla Rural District Congress Committee.

The leadership positions in both districts had remained vacant for an extended period, with party insiders pointing to differences among local leaders as the primary reason for the delay. Kinnaur, in particular, witnessed intense discussions over the selection process before a final decision was reached.

Nigam Bhandari’s appointment is being viewed as politically significant within Himachal Pradesh Congress circles. A former Himachal Youth Congress President, Bhandari currently serves as the National General Secretary of the Indian Youth Congress and is considered one of the prominent young faces of the party in the state.

However, the appointment has also highlighted ongoing differences within the Congress organization. Himachal Pradesh Revenue Minister Jagat Singh Negi publicly expressed dissatisfaction with the decision, suggesting that it could affect the morale of long-serving party workers.

Negi stated that individuals who did not actively oppose the BJP during the period when Congress was in opposition were now being entrusted with important organizational responsibilities. He emphasized that the party should strengthen internal democracy and take into account the opinions of dedicated grassroots workers and senior organizational members before making key appointments.

Despite the criticism, the Congress leadership appears focused on strengthening its district-level structure ahead of future political challenges in the state. Political observers believe the appointments are part of a broader effort by the party high command to consolidate its organization and improve coordination at the grassroots level.

With the new district presidents now in place, attention will shift to how effectively the Congress leadership manages internal differences while preparing for upcoming political battles in Himachal Pradesh.
