A tragic industrial accident in Qatar has claimed the lives of 13 people, including 12 Indian nationals, after a massive explosion struck a factory in Ras Laffan Industrial City. The incident, which has sent shockwaves among the Indian community abroad, also left 66 workers injured.
The Indian Embassy in Doha confirmed the deaths of the Indian citizens and expressed heartfelt condolences to the families who lost their loved ones. The embassy stated that it is working in close coordination with Qatari authorities to ensure the swift repatriation of the mortal remains and provide all possible assistance to the affected families.
“Qatari authorities have confirmed that 12 Indian nationals have unfortunately passed away in the Ras Laffan incident. We extend our deepest condolences to the bereaved families and pray for the departed souls,” the embassy said in an official statement.
According to Qatar’s Ministry of Interior, the explosion occurred due to a technical malfunction during ongoing operations at the factory. Workers from multiple nationalities were present at the site when the blast took place.
Emergency teams and security personnel immediately launched rescue and relief operations following the explosion. All injured workers were shifted to nearby medical facilities, and authorities have confirmed that those injured are currently in stable condition and receiving treatment.
Officials said that search and rescue operations at the accident site have now been completed. A detailed technical investigation has been initiated to identify the exact cause of the explosion and determine whether additional safety measures are required.
The Ministry of Interior also clarified that no gas leakage or environmental risk was detected after the incident, assuring residents that there is no danger to public safety.
Located on Qatar’s northeastern coastline, Ras Laffan Industrial City is considered one of the world’s largest hubs for liquefied natural gas (LNG) production and petrochemical operations. The accident is among the most serious industrial tragedies involving Indian workers in the Gulf region in recent years.
The incident has once again highlighted the risks faced by thousands of migrant workers employed in large-scale industrial projects across the Middle East, as families of the victims await the return of their loved ones.
