International Yoga Day 2026: Over 5,000 People Join Grand Yoga Session at Shimla’s Ridge, Promoting Healthy Living
The picturesque Ridge in Shimla witnessed a remarkable display of unity and wellness as more than 5,000 people came together to celebrate the 12th International Yoga Day. The large-scale yoga session, organised by the Himachal Pradesh Police in collaboration with the Ayush Department, reflected the growing awareness and acceptance of yoga as a path towards a healthier and more balanced life.

The large-scale yoga session, organised by the Himachal Pradesh Police in collaboration with the Ayush Department, reflected the growing awareness and acceptance of yoga as a path towards a healthier and more balanced life.
Held under the theme “Yoga for Healthy Ageing,” the event highlighted the importance of incorporating yoga into everyday life to maintain physical fitness, mental calmness and emotional well-being across all age groups.
Himachal Pradesh Governor Kavinder Gupta, who attended the programme as the chief guest, actively participated in the yoga session alongside thousands of citizens. Addressing the gathering, he described yoga as India’s priceless contribution to the world and emphasised its ability to create harmony between the body, mind and soul.
The Governor urged people, especially the younger generation, to make yoga a regular part of their daily routine and contribute towards building a healthier, more positive and disciplined society.
Director General of Police (DGP) Himachal Pradesh Ashok Tewari also joined the session and highlighted that yoga is much more than a physical activity. He stated that yoga represents a disciplined way of life that promotes a healthy body, peaceful mind and positive thinking.
He further reaffirmed the commitment of the Himachal Pradesh Police towards encouraging fitness, discipline and a drug-free society alongside its responsibility of maintaining public safety and security.
The event saw enthusiastic participation from personnel of the Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP), officials from various government departments, senior citizens, women, students, children, local residents and domestic as well as international tourists.
Adding a professional touch to the celebration, experts from the Department of Yoga, Himachal Pradesh University conducted a live yoga demonstration. Participants were guided through different yoga asanas, pranayama techniques and meditation practices with proper instructions and coordination.
The grand gathering at Shimla’s iconic Ridge showcased how yoga continues to unite people beyond age and background, spreading the message of wellness, mindfulness and harmony in modern society.
