The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) registered a significant political victory in the Baijnath Panchayat Samiti after its backed candidates won both the chairman and vice-chairman positions in a closely contested election held on Tuesday.

Sanjay Thakur from the Chhota Bhangal ward was elected as the new chairman of the panchayat samiti, defeating Congress-backed candidate Monika Katoch by a narrow margin of just one vote. In the contest for the vice-chairman’s post, BJP-supported candidate Veeru from the Mahakal ward defeated Raj Kumar to secure the second key position for the party.

The election witnessed intense political activity, with both BJP and Congress making strong efforts to gain the support of elected panchayat samiti members. Congress leaders also reached out to independent and other members in an attempt to improve their numbers but ultimately missed the victory by a single vote.

The voting process was conducted during a specially convened meeting of the Baijnath Panchayat Samiti. Out of the total 17 elected members, 16 members participated in the election. The united support of BJP-backed members played a decisive role in ensuring the party’s victory in both contests.

Soon after the declaration of the results, BJP workers celebrated the win, calling it a reflection of the party’s strong organisational network and coordinated strategy in the region. The result has been viewed as an important boost for the BJP’s political presence in Baijnath ahead of upcoming local and regional electoral challenges.

Senior BJP leader and former MLA Sudhir Sharma was considered a key figure in the party’s election strategy. Party workers credited him with maintaining coordination among local representatives and ensuring unity within the BJP camp during the election process.

Expressing gratitude after his victory, newly elected chairman Sanjay Thakur thanked BJP workers, supporters and members of the panchayat samiti for placing their trust in him. He also acknowledged the guidance and contribution of senior party leaders in the successful campaign.

Former MLA Mool Raj Premi congratulated the newly elected representatives and described the victory as the result of disciplined teamwork and collective efforts of party workers.

On the other hand, Congress leaders expressed disappointment over the outcome and alleged that the conduct of some BJP supporters after the announcement of the results was inappropriate. They stated that the one-vote difference highlighted the highly competitive nature of the election.

With BJP securing both the chairman and vice-chairman posts, the outcome is being seen as a major political development in the Baijnath region and could influence the political dynamics of future local body elections.
