A major fire broke out at an ethanol manufacturing facility in Nalagarh, Himachal Pradesh, on Tuesday night, causing an estimated financial loss of nearly Rs 15 lakh. Fortunately, no casualties or injuries were reported, while the timely efforts of firefighters and plant staff prevented the flames from turning into a larger industrial disaster.

The incident occurred at Bharat Spirits Private Limited, located in Aduwal village of Nalagarh, at around 9:20 pm. According to initial reports, the fire is believed to have started near the conveyor belt area of the ethanol production unit. However, the exact cause of the blaze is still under investigation.

Soon after receiving the alert, a team of 11 firefighters from the Nalagarh fire station reached the spot along with three fire tenders. The firefighting operation continued for nearly two and a half hours before the flames were completely brought under control.

Eyewitnesses reported thick clouds of smoke and intense flames emerging from the industrial premises, creating panic in the surrounding area. Fire personnel worked continuously to ensure that the fire did not spread to nearby sections of the plant, which could have resulted in a much bigger financial setback.

Santosh Sharma, Commandant of the Home Guards, Solan, stated that the swift response of the plant staff and emergency teams helped protect property worth approximately Rs 70 lakh. He confirmed that three fire engines were deployed during the rescue operation to control the fire at the industrial unit.

Authorities have started examining the circumstances that led to the incident. A detailed investigation is expected to reveal the exact reason behind the fire.

The incident once again highlights the importance of rapid emergency response systems and strict industrial safety measures at chemical and ethanol manufacturing units to minimize damage during unexpected accidents.
