Central University of Himachal Pradesh Ranked 9th Best Government University in India in IIRF 2026
The Central University of Himachal Pradesh (CUHP) has achieved a remarkable milestone in higher education by securing the 9th position among government universities in India in the prestigious Indian Institutional Ranking Framework (IIRF) 2026 rankings. With this achievement, CUHP has also emerged as the highest-ranked university in Himachal Pradesh, reinforcing its growing reputation as a leading academic and research institution.
The Central University of Himachal Pradesh (CUHP) has achieved a remarkable milestone in higher education by securing the 9th position among government universities in India in the prestigious Indian Institutional Ranking Framework (IIRF) 2026 rankings. With this achievement, CUHP has also emerged as the highest-ranked university in Himachal Pradesh, reinforcing its growing reputation as a leading academic and research institution.
Speaking on the achievement, Vice-Chancellor Prof. S.P. Bansal said that the ranking reflects the university’s consistent progress in academics, research, innovation, and student development. Over the years, the institution has focused on creating a modern learning environment while aligning itself with national education reforms.
One of the standout aspects of CUHP’s performance was its strong academic reputation. The university secured the 4th rank nationally in Academic Reputation and 9th rank in Research Outcome, highlighting its commitment to quality teaching and impactful research. The successful implementation of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, along with multidisciplinary programmes and experiential learning initiatives, has played a key role in strengthening its academic standing.
CUHP has also expanded its international presence through collaborations with universities and organizations across several countries, including Germany, the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, the UAE, and Kazakhstan. The university currently has 62 Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) with global institutions. Its joint MBA programme with Indiana University of Pennsylvania is considered a significant step toward international academic engagement.
Research continues to be one of the university’s strongest pillars. CUHP has recorded an impressive h-index of 71, more than 40,000 citations, over 5,000 research publications, and 42 patents and design copyrights. In addition, the university has attracted sponsored research projects worth more than ₹20 crore, reflecting its increasing contribution to knowledge creation and innovation.
The university’s impact extends beyond academics. Ranked 7th nationally in Public Perception, CUHP has been actively involved in community outreach, rural engagement, sustainable development initiatives, student welfare programmes, sports promotion, and skill development activities. These efforts have helped strengthen its connection with society while creating holistic opportunities for students.
Adding further momentum to its growth journey, the university’s permanent campus in Dehra, Himachal Pradesh, is nearing completion. Combined with its Category-I autonomy status from the University Grants Commission (UGC), the development is expected to enhance CUHP’s academic and institutional capabilities in the coming years.
