A shocking incident of violence inside the Kishanpura Sub-Jail in Nalagarh has raised serious concerns over prison security and inmate discipline after five inmates allegedly attacked jail staff late Saturday evening.

According to police officials, the incident took place during routine surveillance duty when jail warder Rohit Kumar was reportedly assaulted by a group of inmates identified as Suryatej, Deepak, Sunil, Gurcharan and Gagan.

Officials said the accused inmates allegedly surrounded the warder and physically attacked him inside the jail premises. Rohit Kumar suffered injuries to his head and back during the assault. The situation reportedly turned tense within minutes as panic spread among prison staff.

When Havildar Nandlal attempted to intervene and rescue the injured warder, he too was allegedly attacked by the inmates and sustained injuries. Other jail personnel immediately rushed to the scene and managed to control the situation before it escalated further.

Police sources revealed that the accused inmates also allegedly obstructed government duty and threatened the policemen with serious consequences during the confrontation.

Following the incident, a case has been registered at the Manpura Police Station under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the Prisons Act. Authorities have launched a detailed investigation into the matter.

Speaking on the case, Superintendent of Police Baddi, Vinod Dhiman confirmed that further legal action is being taken against the accused inmates.

Preliminary investigation suggests that the inmates were reportedly unhappy over certain restrictions imposed inside the jail and allegedly attacked the prison staff in anger to “teach them a lesson.”

Police officials further stated that most of the accused inmates are currently lodged under preventive detention under the Prevention of Illicit Traffic in Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, 1988, due to their alleged repeated involvement in drug trafficking activities. Some of the inmates are also facing charges in robbery and dacoity-related cases.

The incident has once again brought attention to security challenges and rising indiscipline inside prisons, especially involving hardened criminals and repeat offenders. Authorities are now reviewing the circumstances that led to the attack and assessing whether additional security measures are required at the sub-jail.
