Heavy Voting Enthusiasm Seen Across Mandi Urban Bodies
The district of Mandi witnessed energetic voter participation on Sunday as polling for the Municipal Corporation, Municipal Councils, and Nagar Panchayats commenced at 7 am. Long queues outside polling booths and a steady rush of voters throughout the morning reflected strong public enthusiasm for the local body elections.
Residents from different urban areas arrived early to exercise their democratic rights, while election officials ensured smooth polling arrangements at all designated booths. Tight security measures were also put in place at sensitive polling stations to maintain peace during the voting process.
BJP vs Congress Contest Makes Mandi MC Election Politically Significant
The election for the Mandi Municipal Corporation has turned into a high-profile political contest as candidates are fighting the polls on party symbols. The direct face-off between the Bharatiya Janata Party and the Indian National Congress has significantly increased political interest in the civic elections.
Political observers believe the outcome of the Mandi Municipal Corporation polls could send an important message ahead of upcoming political battles in Himachal Pradesh. Meanwhile, elections for Municipal Councils and Nagar Panchayats are being conducted on a non-party basis.
Early Polling Percentage Shows Strong Public Participation
According to voter turnout figures recorded till 9 am, the Mandi Municipal Corporation registered a polling percentage of 15.42 per cent.
Among the Municipal Councils, Jogindernagar recorded 17.10 per cent voting, while Nerchowk registered 18.66 per cent turnout. Sarkaghat Municipal Council reported the highest polling among municipal councils with 18.88 per cent voting till 9 am. Sundernagar recorded a turnout of 15.40 per cent during the same period.
Among Nagar Panchayats, Karsog witnessed an impressive 22.81 per cent voter turnout, emerging as one of the most active urban bodies in the early hours of polling. Rewalsar recorded 17.12 per cent turnout.
Tight Security and Smooth Polling Arrangements
Election authorities deployed security personnel at key polling booths to ensure free and fair elections. Polling teams were seen actively assisting voters, while administrative officials monitored arrangements across urban local bodies.
Many voters said they preferred to cast their votes early in the morning to avoid the afternoon rush and rising temperatures. The peaceful atmosphere at polling stations added to the smooth conduct of the elections.
Counting to Begin After Polling Ends
Polling for all urban local bodies will continue till 3 pm. Following the completion of voting, counting of votes will be carried out as per the schedule announced by the election authorities.
