The excitement surrounding the upcoming IPL 2026 matches in Dharamsala is not only energising cricket fans but also giving a massive boost to Himachal Pradesh’s tourism and hospitality sector. As thousands of spectators prepare to travel to the hill town for the high-profile clashes, air fares between Delhi and Dharamsala have skyrocketed to nearly Rs 24,000.

The picturesque Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association (HPCA) Stadium, located against the stunning backdrop of the Dhauladhar mountain range, is set to host four important IPL matches this season, including a crucial playoff encounter. With cricket enthusiasts, media teams, corporate travellers and supporters rushing to Dharamsala, demand for flights has surged sharply in recent days.

Delhi to Dharamsala Flight Tickets Triple Ahead of IPL Matches

According to travel industry sources, air ticket prices on the Delhi-Dharamsala route, which usually range between Rs 5,000 and Rs 7,000, have now climbed to Rs 18,000–24,000 on match days.

Industry experts believe the sudden rise in airfare is mainly due to limited flight connectivity at Kangra Airport combined with a massive increase in travel demand during the IPL season. Kangra Airport currently handles around eight to ten flight movements daily, with additional pressure during weekends and special events.

Travel operators say such fare hikes are commonly seen during major sporting events, but this year’s IPL demand has been exceptionally strong because of Dharamsala’s popularity as one of the world’s most scenic cricket venues.

Punjab Kings Matches Driving Huge Crowd Rush

The buzz in Dharamsala is largely centred around the home fixtures of Punjab Kings. The franchise is scheduled to play multiple matches at the venue, attracting fans from across India.

Punjab Kings will face Delhi Capitals on May 11, Mumbai Indians on May 14 and Royal Challengers Bengaluru on May 17. The stadium will also host Qualifier 1 on May 26, making Dharamsala one of the key IPL destinations this season.

Cricket fans are especially excited about watching live IPL action amid the scenic Himalayan surroundings, which has become a major attraction for tourists and sports lovers alike.

Hotels in Dharamsala and McLeodganj Witness Heavy Booking Surge

The IPL season has come as a major relief for Dharamsala’s tourism industry, which had experienced a relatively slow April and early May.

Luxury hotels in Dharamsala and nearby Palampur are already operating at near-full capacity, while smaller hotels and guest houses are also witnessing a sharp rise in bookings.

Ashwani Kumar Bamba, President of the Hotel and Restaurant Association, said that occupancy levels have increased significantly due to the upcoming matches.

He added that lower Dharamsala is already seeing heavy tourist activity, while areas like McLeodganj, Dharamkot and Bhagsunag are also expected to witness strong occupancy growth in the coming days.

Local Businesses Expect Strong Earnings During IPL Season

The IPL rush is also bringing positive business opportunities for local vendors and service providers. Taxi operators, restaurants, cafes, souvenir shops and travel agencies are preparing for a large influx of tourists during the tournament period.

Kangra District Tourism Development Officer Vinay Dhiman stated that hotel occupancy in lower Dharamsala has already crossed 90 per cent, while tourist footfall in nearby hill destinations is expected to rise further as match dates approach.

Security and Traffic Arrangements Tightened Around HPCA Stadium

Meanwhile, the district administration and HPCA authorities have started extensive preparations to manage the expected crowd during the IPL matches.

Officials are working on traffic diversion plans, parking management and enhanced security deployment around the stadium area to ensure smooth movement of visitors and spectators during the high-voltage cricket fixtures.

With IPL fever reaching new heights, Dharamsala is once again proving why it remains one of India’s favourite cricket tourism destinations.
