In a major push towards infrastructure and sustainable development, Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu on Monday rolled out development projects worth ₹51 crore in the Kasumpti Assembly constituency of Shimla district.

During his one-day visit, the Chief Minister inaugurated and laid foundation stones for 15 projects across Dharech and Cheog areas, focusing on improving rural connectivity and promoting clean energy.

Major Road Projects to Strengthen Connectivity

A significant portion of the investment has been directed towards road infrastructure to improve access in remote areas. The Chief Minister laid the foundation stones for three key road projects:

  • Fagu–Dharech road (₹15.23 crore)
  • Dharech–Chatog via Manda road (₹7.85 crore)
  • Darn–Jubbar road (₹4.81 crore)

Additionally, he inaugurated the Cheog Bypass Road, built at a cost of ₹2.85 crore, which is expected to ease traffic and improve local transportation.

Dharech Becomes First ‘Green Panchayat’

In a major step towards renewable energy, Sukhu inaugurated a 500 KW solar power project in Dharech gram panchayat, declaring it the state’s first “Green Panchayat.”

The solar plant, developed at a cost of ₹1.94 crore, started construction in January 2025 and was successfully connected to the grid on March 30, 2026. The project is currently generating around 3,000 units of electricity daily, with an estimated annual output of nearly 8 lakh units.

Under an agreement with Himachal Pradesh State Electricity Board Limited, the electricity will be purchased at ₹3.50 per unit. This is expected to generate an annual income of approximately ₹28 lakh for the panchayat, enhancing its financial independence and sustainability.

Focus on Rural Development and Local Faith

Rural Development and Panchayati Raj Minister Anirudh Singh thanked the Chief Minister for prioritizing the region’s development and delivering multiple projects.

During the visit, Sukhu also paid obeisance at the Jai Ishwari Mata Temple and announced ₹1 crore for the beautification of the temple complex, reflecting the government’s focus on preserving cultural and religious heritage alongside development.
