In a significant development amid rising tensions in West Asia, Masoud Pezeshkian has described the newly announced ceasefire between Iran and the United States as a powerful reflection of national unity and resilience.
Speaking on social media platform X, the Iranian President emphasized that the agreement was not merely a political outcome but a result of collective public support and leadership sacrifice. He referred to the ceasefire as the “fruit of blood” of former Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, who was reportedly killed in joint US-Israeli strikes on February 28—an event that triggered over a month of escalating conflict.
Pezeshkian highlighted that the ceasefire aligns with Iran’s core principles and represents the unity of its people across all fronts—diplomatic, defensive, and civil. “From today onward, we will remain together in every arena,” he stated, underlining a message of solidarity during a critical time for the nation.
The ceasefire announcement follows a major policy shift by former US President Donald Trump, who declared a temporary suspension of military operations against Iran. Posting on Truth Social, Trump revealed that both sides had agreed to a two-week halt in hostilities, opening a window for negotiations toward a long-term peace agreement.
According to Trump, the decision came after extensive consultations, including discussions with Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Army Chief Asim Munir, who urged restraint to avoid further escalation in the region.
The proposed ceasefire is reportedly tied to Iran’s agreement to ensure the “complete, immediate, and safe” reopening of the strategically vital Strait of Hormuz—an essential route for global oil shipments. Trump noted that the US had already achieved its primary military objectives and expressed optimism about a potential long-term peace deal based on a 10-point proposal submitted by Iran.
While the situation remains fluid, the ceasefire has sparked cautious optimism globally, with observers viewing it as a crucial step toward de-escalation in a region long marked by instability.
