In a major development that could reshape tensions in the Middle East, Iran’s top security body has declared a “historic victory” following a surprise decision by Donald Trump to suspend the ongoing bombing campaign and agree to a two-week ceasefire.

The announcement came from Iran’s Supreme National Security Council, which claimed that the country had achieved “nearly all” of its war objectives. According to Iranian state media, the council said the United States had accepted key conditions, including Iran’s stance on the Strait of Hormuz, enrichment rights, and a halt to hostilities.

Iran Claims Strategic Gains

In a strongly worded statement, the council asserted that Iran had forced the US into accepting its framework for peace. It also claimed that Washington agreed to stop aggression, withdraw forces from the region, and discuss compensation for damages—claims that remain independently unverified.

Iran further stated that it had resisted multiple ceasefire deadlines proposed by the US over the past month, choosing instead to continue military engagement until its strategic goals were achieved.

“The war continued until the enemy reached desperation,” the council said, adding that the outcome reflects Iran’s growing influence and regional power.

Trump Announces Temporary Ceasefire

The turning point came when Donald Trump announced a halt to military action via his platform, citing progress in negotiations and the achievement of key US military objectives.

Trump revealed that the decision followed discussions with Shehbaz Sharif and Asim Munir, who reportedly urged restraint to avoid further escalation.

He confirmed that the ceasefire would last for two weeks and described it as “double-sided,” meaning both nations would pause military operations during this period.

Path Toward a Peace Deal?

Trump also disclosed that Iran had submitted a 10-point proposal, which the US considers a workable basis for negotiating a long-term peace agreement. He emphasized that the US had already met or exceeded its military goals.

Meanwhile, Iran signaled conditional cooperation. Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi stated that Iran would halt its military operations if it is not attacked during the ceasefire window.

Strait of Hormuz to Remain Open

One of the most critical aspects of the agreement is the temporary assurance of safe passage through the Strait of Hormuz, a vital global oil shipping route. Iran confirmed that navigation would remain open for two weeks, subject to coordination with its armed forces.

What Happens Next?

While both sides appear to be stepping back from immediate conflict, uncertainty remains over whether this temporary ceasefire can evolve into a permanent peace agreement.

For now, the two-week pause offers a rare window for diplomacy in a region long marked by instability—raising cautious optimism across global markets and political circles.
