Himachal Pradesh is once again in the grip of cold weather as fresh snowfall and continuous rainfall have pushed temperatures down across the state. For the second consecutive day, higher reaches witnessed fresh snow, while several mid and lower regions experienced steady rain along with hailstorms.

According to the Meteorological Department, areas like Khadrala in Shimla district recorded around 10 cm of snowfall, while Kalpa in Kinnaur received over 6 cm. Other high-altitude regions, including parts of Chamba and Lahaul-Spiti, also saw fresh snow, adding to the chill in the air.

At the same time, rainfall activity intensified in many regions. Sarahan recorded the highest rainfall, followed by Manali and Bharmour. Cities like Shimla, Mandi, and Dharamsala also experienced light to moderate rain, with Shimla witnessing hail during the afternoon—something that caught many residents by surprise.

This widespread weather activity has led to a noticeable dip in temperatures. Both minimum and maximum temperatures have dropped significantly, making mornings and evenings colder than usual. In some areas, the mercury has dipped below freezing, especially in higher reaches.

The weather department has warned that these conditions are likely to continue over the next few days. Heavy snowfall is expected in higher regions, while rain and hailstorms may persist in other parts of the state until March 22. A yellow alert has been issued for multiple districts, while an orange alert is in place for March 19 in key regions like Shimla, Mandi, Kullu, and Kangra.

With temperatures expected to fall even further, residents and tourists are advised to stay cautious, especially while traveling to hilly areas. Roads in higher regions may become slippery due to snow accumulation, and sudden weather changes could impact travel plans.

Among major towns, Manali and Shimla remain particularly cold, while Nahan recorded relatively warmer daytime temperatures. Tabo continues to be one of the coldest places in the state.

As Himachal continues to experience this extended spell of winter-like conditions in March, the coming days will be crucial in determining how long this cold wave persists.
