Marking the spirit of empowerment and achievement, Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu honoured several inspiring women from across Himachal Pradesh during the state-level International Women’s Day celebration held in Nahan, Sirmaur district, on Sunday.

The event celebrated the remarkable contributions of women who have excelled in administration, education, social service and adventure, reflecting the growing role of women in shaping the state’s future.

Among the prominent awardees was Sirmaur Deputy Commissioner Priyanka Verma, who was recognised for her impactful work in promoting women’s empowerment initiatives in the district.

One of the most inspiring moments of the ceremony came when Kritika Sharma from Gattadhar village in Sangrah tehsil was felicitated for successfully scaling Mount Everest, bringing pride not only to Sirmaur but to the entire state.

Another achiever honoured during the event was Megha Singh Kanwar from Pajjhota in Rajgarh, who secured the first position in the Himachal Pradesh Administrative Examination 2025, emerging as a role model for young aspirants across the region.

Women honoured under Mahila Vikas Protsahan Yojana

Under the Himachal Pradesh Mahila Vikas Protsahan Yojana, several women and organisations were recognised for their achievements and contributions to society.
The awardees included:

  • Shanti Jaiswal (Solan)
  • Nirmala Dhiman (Bilaspur)
  • Grihini Swayam Swarojgar Sangh from Indora (Kangra)
  • Nishu Lata (Una)

Each recipient was awarded 1 lakh as recognition of their efforts toward social and economic empowerment.

Financial assistance distributed under welfare schemes

The Chief Minister also distributed financial assistance to beneficiaries under various state welfare schemes.

Under the Mukhyamantri Sukh Aashray Yojana, Shikha, Simran Kaur, Shiya and Prem Lata received 60,000 each as marriage assistance.
Meanwhile, Mehboob Hasan and Ravi were provided the second instalment of 1 lakh each for house construction.

Under the Mukhyamantri Shagun Yojana, Santosh Devi, Shila Devi and Nemo Devi were given 31,000 each.

Similarly, Nasifa, Nitesh and Vidha Devi received 2 lakh each under the Vidhva Punarvivah Yojana, while Babita, Sunita Devi and Anita Devi were provided ₹51,000 each under the Mukhyamantri Kanyadaan Yojana.

Anganwadi workers and families also recognised

In recognition of their grassroots service, the Chief Minister honoured 24 Anganwadi workers from different districts, awarding them 5,000 each for their dedication to community welfare.

During the programme, ownership rights certificates were also distributed to 28 families under the Forest Rights Act, further strengthening the government’s commitment to social justice and inclusive development.

The event concluded on an inspiring note, celebrating the achievements of women who continue to break barriers and contribute to Himachal Pradesh’s progress.
