In a heartbreaking incident that has left Jharkhand’s political circles shaken, 22-year-old Veer Soren, grandson of former Jharkhand Chief Minister Champai Soren, passed away under suspicious circumstances during a vacation in Manali.

What began as a short mountain getaway ended in tragedy — and unanswered questions.

A Vacation That Turned Tragic

Veer, son of Babu Lal Soren, had travelled to Manali on February 22 with a group of friends. The group was staying at a homestay in the Simsa area. Among his companions was Agnya Verma, a resident of Uttar Pradesh.

Over the weekend, the friends explored popular tourist spots such as Solang Valley and Sethan village — scenic high-altitude destinations known for snow-covered landscapes and breathtaking Himalayan views.

Everything appeared normal until Tuesday afternoon.

Sudden Headache, Rapid Deterioration

According to police officials, Veer returned to the homestay around 12:30 pm after a short walk and complained of a severe headache. His friends arranged medication through a quick-delivery service, which he took before lying down to rest.

However, what seemed like a routine health issue quickly escalated.

Around 2:30 pm, his friends heard a loud thud from his room. They rushed inside and found him lying on the floor, apparently after falling from the bed. As they transported him to Civil Hospital in Manali, his condition worsened significantly. Reports suggest he began frothing at the mouth.

Doctors performed prolonged CPR upon arrival, but despite efforts to revive him, Veer was declared dead shortly thereafter.

No Visible Injuries, But No Autopsy

Initial medico-legal procedures were initiated, and the body was preserved in the mortuary. Authorities stated that a post-mortem examination would be conducted once family members arrived, especially since there were no visible external injury marks.

Later that day, Champai Soren arrived in Manali via chartered helicopter. In a significant development, he declined the post-mortem examination and requested that his grandson’s body be taken back home.

After completing formalities, the family departed with the body the same afternoon.

The decision not to conduct an autopsy has left the exact cause of death officially undetermined.

Was High Altitude a Factor?

Though no confirmed medical conclusion has been released, preliminary speculation suggests possible high-altitude complications.

Regions such as Sethan, located near Hamta Pass, are known for reduced oxygen levels. In rare cases, even young and healthy individuals can develop acute altitude-related conditions like cerebral edema or pulmonary edema.

However, without a post-mortem, these possibilities remain speculative.

Shockwaves in Jharkhand

The sudden demise of Veer Soren has deeply affected the Soren family and triggered concern within Jharkhand’s political community. The absence of a medical examination may continue to fuel questions in the coming days.

For now, a young life has been lost far too soon — turning what was meant to be a joyful trip into an unimaginable tragedy.
