As part of preparations for the upcoming urban civic body (UCB) elections, the Solan Deputy Commissioner on Tuesday published the electoral rolls of five urban local bodies in the district, excluding the Baddi Municipal Corporation (MC) and Kunihar nagar panchayat.
The electoral rolls were released for the nagar panchayats of Kandaghat and Arki, the municipal councils of Nalagarh and Parwanoo, and the Solan Municipal Corporation.
Deputy Commissioner Manmohan Sharma said the Himachal Pradesh High Court had set aside the notifications for the Kunihar nagar panchayat and Baddi MC following objections raised by local residents. As per court directions, the state government has been asked to hear the grievances of the affected residents before proceeding further.
The High Court has directed the state government to conduct elections to Panchayati Raj Institutions (PRIs) and urban local bodies before April 30, rejecting a plea seeking deferment of the polls.
The tenure of 50 municipal councils and nagar panchayats across the state ended on January 18, while the term of the Solan Municipal Corporation is set to conclude in April, making the conduct of elections mandatory within the stipulated timeframe.
