Himachal Pradesh : Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu calls for studies on water evaporation, glacier melt

Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu on Tuesday directed officials to conduct a comprehensive study on water evaporation from dams and reservoirs during the summer season, expressing concern over its possible environmental impact.

Chairing a review meeting of departments and undertakings associated with the energy sector, the Chief Minister said the rising level of haze in various cities of the state was a serious matter and required scientific evaluation. He stressed the need for an in-depth assessment to determine whether there was any correlation between evaporation from reservoirs and the increasing incidents of cloudbursts.

Sukhu also asked officials to analyse the rate of glacier melting in Himachal Pradesh and assess its implications for flood management and long-term water security.

During the meeting, the Chief Minister reviewed the progress of ongoing construction projects in the energy sector and issued necessary directions to ensure their timely and efficient execution.
