The state government on Monday dismissed 11 police personnel found involved in cases related to chitta under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, reinforcing its zero-tolerance policy against drug trafficking. The dismissals were carried out under Article 311(2)(b) of the Constitution of India.

Presiding over a high-level meeting in Shimla, Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu said the police have a primary responsibility to act decisively against chitta and drug suppliers. “If police personnel themselves are found involved in drug-related activities, stringent action is inevitable,” he said.

Sending a strong message, the Chief Minister asserted that no one would be spared, irrespective of rank or position. “No one is above the law. Those promoting the illegal trade of chitta and other drugs have no place in the police force,” he said.

Sukhu directed all government departments to prepare detailed reports on employees involved in chitta trafficking or related activities and submit them to the Chief Secretary at the earliest. He also instructed officials to identify and report properties acquired through drug money by such employees.

To strengthen public participation, the Chief Minister said the emergency number 112 has been activated for sharing information related to chitta, assuring citizens that they can provide information without fear.

Director General of Police Ashok Tiwari gave a detailed presentation on the steps taken by the Police Department to curb chitta trafficking and the action initiated against those involved.

The state government has also announced a reward scheme to encourage informers. A reward of Rs 10,000 will be given for information leading to the recovery of up to two grams of chitta, Rs 25,000 for five grams, Rs 50,000 for 25 grams, Rs 5 lakh for one kilogram and Rs 10 lakh for seizures exceeding one kilogram. Informers providing information on major drug syndicates may receive rewards exceeding Rs 5 lakh.
