IGMC Shimla News : Shimla IGMC Doctor–Patient Dispute Ends in Amicable Settlement
Shimla IGMC doctor-patient dispute ends amicably as terminated senior resident Dr Raghav Nirula and complainant Arjun Singh apologise to each other; government orders fresh probe.
Even as the termination of a senior resident doctor at Indira Gandhi Medical College (IGMC), Shimla, is set to be re-examined by a newly constituted committee, the doctor and the complainant on Tuesday reached an amicable settlement in the presence of their families.
The terminated doctor, Dr Raghav Nirula, and complainant Arjun Singh apologised to each other and stated that the matter had been resolved. The two embraced before their family members, signalling closure to the dispute.
The incident dates back to December 22, when a scuffle reportedly broke out between Dr Nirula and Arjun Singh at IGMC. An FIR was subsequently registered against the doctor. Following the findings of an inquiry committee comprising senior doctors, Dr Nirula was terminated from his senior residency as well as from the Health Department’s services.
Expressing regret, Arjun Singh said the unfortunate incident had caused inconvenience to the general public and should not have occurred.
Meanwhile, Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu reiterated that the state government remains committed to safeguarding the interests of both patients and doctors. He confirmed that a newly formed committee will re-investigate the incident and submit its report to the government, after which further action will be considered.
