Himachal Pradesh News : Centre’s Rs 601-cr Disaster Relief to Accelerate Himachal’s Rehabilitation: BJP
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Saturday welcomed the Union government’s release of Rs 601.92 crore for disaster relief in Himachal Pradesh, terming it a significant boost for rehabilitation and reconstruction, while strongly criticising the Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu-led state government over governance, law and order and rising debt.
State BJP president Dr Rajeev Bindal said the financial assistance reflected the Centre’s steadfast support for Himachal in times of crisis. “Today is a day of satisfaction for Himachal Pradesh. Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led central government has released an additional Rs 601.92 crore to help our disaster-affected brothers and sisters. This will speed up rehabilitation, reconstruction and development works,” he said.
Dr Bindal thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah and BJP national president JP Nadda, stating that Himachal Pradesh had received nearly Rs 5,800 crore so far as disaster assistance. “This clearly shows that the Modi government has stood shoulder to shoulder with Himachal in difficult times,” he added.
However, Bindal accused the Sukhu government of administrative failure and deteriorating law and order. Referring to recent incidents of violence, he said, “Open gang wars, firing incidents and attacks indicate that the fear of law has ended in Himachal.” He also targeted the state government over rising debt, claiming that nearly Rs 45,000 crore had been incurred in the last three years. “This is not a system change but a system collapse,” he remarked.
Former Chief Minister and Leader of the Opposition Jai Ram Thakur also expressed gratitude for the Centre’s support, noting that the funds were released by the Union Home Ministry under the Post Disaster Needs Assessment (PDNA).
At the same time, Thakur questioned the state government’s utilisation of funds. “Despite such substantial assistance from the Centre, the state government has failed to distribute even Rs 500 crore to disaster-affected families. This raises serious questions about its priorities and administrative capacity,” he said, urging transparency and swift utilisation of the relief amount.
Thakur also held the state government responsible for the worsening healthcare situation due to ongoing strikes by resident doctors and ambulance staff. “The health system has reached a critical stage due to government negligence. If any life is lost, the responsibility will lie squarely with the state government,” he warned.
Both BJP leaders stressed that disaster relief funds are meant for the people of Himachal Pradesh and must be used honestly, efficiently and without delay to restore normalcy and rebuild the state.
