Himachal Pradesh State Men’s Boxing Championship 2025 Kicks Off at Bhawarna, 150 Boxers in Action

The HP State Elite Men’s Boxing Championship 2025 got underway at Paras Public School in Bhawarna, about 15 km from Palampur, on Friday. The event was inaugurated by Palampur Municipal Corporation Mayor Gopal Nag, who lit the ceremonial lamp before an idol of Goddess Saraswati.

Around 150 boxers in the 20–40 age group, including several state- and national-level players, are competing in the championship, showcasing their skill and strength in the ring.

Congratulating Paras Public School for hosting the state-level event, the Mayor said that sports play a vital role in the overall development of an individual. He assured the Himachal Pradesh Boxing Association that a meeting would be held soon to discuss the establishment of a boxing training facility in Palampur. He also announced a contribution of ₹11,000 towards the successful organisation of the championship.

Olympian Ashish Chaudhary and national-level boxer Avinash Jamwal, a silver medallist, along with several other prominent pugilists, are set to feature in the competition, adding to the excitement.

S.K. Shandil, Secretary of the Himachal Pradesh Boxing Association and an internationally recognised official, is serving as an international judge on the panel. Paras Public School Director Mahesh Chandra Katoch, Principal Neelam Rana, District Boxing Association president Narendra Gaud, general secretary Kailash, senior vice-president Manu Sood, press secretary Ashok Rana, retired principal Mahesh Nag, along with school staff, players and parents, were present at the inauguration.

Three-star national-level referees Kailash Sharma and Naveen Rana, along with 20 to 25 coaches, are officiating and guiding the players during the event. Ashok Rana said the championship reflects Director Mahesh Chandra Katoch’s commitment to providing quality platforms and facilities for young sportspersons.
