Himachal BJP Protests ‘Anti-Youth’ Trainee Policy, Accuses Govt of Betraying Job Promises
BJP leaders in Himachal Pradesh staged a protest outside the Assembly, calling the state’s new trainee-based recruitment model “anti-youth” and alleging that it undermines real job opportunities. The Opposition claims the policy contradicts the Congress government’s promise of five lakh jobs and criticises the scrapping of the Mukhyamantri Swavalamban Yojana.
Former Chief Minister and Leader of the Opposition Jai Ram Thakur, along with members of the BJP Legislative Party, held a protest inside the Himachal Pradesh Vidhan Sabha complex on Tuesday morning, accusing the state government of betraying its commitments to young people.
The BJP MLAs raised slogans including “Sukhu ji tum ek kaam karo, kursi chhodo araam karo” and “yuva virodhi sarkaar murdabad”, demanding that the government immediately roll back its new trainee-based recruitment policy.
The Opposition has described the policy as “anti-youth”, arguing that it replaces genuine employment opportunities with a system that diminishes the prospects of job seekers. Under the new model, the existing contract appointment system has been replaced with a two-year trainee structure for Group A, B and C posts. Trainees are paid a fixed stipend, gain on-the-job experience, and are required to clear a departmental examination at the end of the period to qualify for permanent positions.
BJP leaders said the move contradicts the ruling Congress party’s pre-election assurance of providing five lakh jobs. They also criticised the government for discontinuing the Mukhyamantri Swavalamban Yojana, a scheme they claim played a key role in promoting self-employment among young people.
