U.S. Black Friday Online Sales Hit Record $11.8 Billion, Adobe Reports Strong Holiday Momentum
U.S. shoppers set a new online spending record on Black Friday with $11.8 billion in sales, according to Adobe Analytics. Despite inflation concerns, spending remained strong across the weekend, with Cyber Monday expected to reach $14.2 billion.
Online spending in the United States surged to a record $11.8 billion on Black Friday, marking a 9.1% increase from last year, according to final data from Adobe Analytics.
Adobe, which tracks more than a trillion visits to U.S. retail websites, expects consumers to spend $5.5 billion on Saturday and $5.9 billion on Sunday, up 3.8% and 5.4%, respectively, compared with a year ago.
Separately, software firm Salesforce reported that U.S. consumers spent $18 billion on Black Friday purchases, a 3% rise from last year. Luxury apparel and accessories were among the most sought-after categories.
Despite higher overall spending, Salesforce noted that inflation has dampened online demand, with shoppers buying fewer items at checkout compared with last year.
At physical stores, footfall and bargain hunting picked up after Thanksgiving morning. Some shoppers said persistent inflation, uncertainty around trade policies, and a softer labor market made them cautious about spending too much.
Looking ahead, Cyber Monday—traditionally the biggest day for online deals—is projected by Adobe to be the season’s largest online shopping day once again, with spending expected to reach $14.2 billion, a 6.3% increase from last year.
