BJP protests against withholding MLA discretionary grants
Opposition leaders raised slogans against the government in the Himachal Pradesh Assembly complex.
Just minutes before the second day of the Winter Session convened on Thursday, BJP MLAs staged a protest inside the Assembly premises, accusing the state government of withholding the discretionary grants allotted to legislators.
Led by Leader of Opposition Jai Ram Thakur, the MLAs marched with placards and shouted slogans, alleging that the government had failed to release MLA Area Development Funds.
Thakur said that blocking the funds was hurting development works across constituencies and accused the government of adopting “discriminatory and vindictive” policies.
He further alleged that Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu, who also holds the finance portfolio, has pushed the hill state into a financial crisis. “The CM is directly responsible for the financial distress the state is facing,” Thakur claimed.
