Former minister Bikram Thakur says the Congress government has pushed the state into “a mountain of corruption.”
Himachal News: BJP Targets Government With Sharp Criticism Ahead of Winter Session
The opposition BJP launched a strong political offensive against Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu ahead of the Himachal Pradesh Assembly’s Winter Session, accusing the Congress government of pushing the state into “a mountain of corruption” and crippling development over the past three years.
Former Industries Minister and Jaswan–Pragpur MLA Bikram Thakur said the previous BJP government had strengthened investment and industrial growth by hosting the 2019 Global Investors Meet and offering sector-specific incentives in agriculture, defence, pharmaceuticals, and green energy. In contrast, he alleged, the present Congress government has failed to host even one investor meet, while the single-window clearance system—introduced to streamline industrial approvals—has stopped functioning effectively, causing difficulties for investors.
Thakur further accused the Sukhu government of promoting large-scale corruption through “illegal” land-use changes (CLU) in industrial hubs such as Baddi, Barotiwala, Nalagarh, and Paonta Sahib. He demanded a vigilance probe into CLU approvals granted for around 150 bighas of land in Nalagarh, questioning how such permissions were issued without mandatory scrutiny. “Industries are being driven out, while land is being diverted for other commercial gains,” he alleged.
He also levelled charges of irregularities in employee outsourcing through the Himachal Pradesh State Electronics Development Corporation Limited, claiming that certain favoured private firms were awarded contracts in violation of rules and despite High Court restrictions—resulting in exploitation of unemployed youth and diversion of crores of rupees through private agencies.
The BJP leader called for a vigilance probe into the ₹250-crore Bulk Drug Park tender allotment and alleged irregularities in ₹150-crore procurement in the Education Department.
Thakur also criticised the state’s “flawed” excise policy, claiming it caused significant financial losses to both the Forest Corporation and contractors.
