Hamas Delegation in Cairo for Talks as Both Sides Trade Ceasefire Violation Claims
A Hamas delegation has arrived in Cairo to discuss the Gaza ceasefire with mediators from Egypt, Qatar, and the U.S., amid renewed accusations from both Israel and Hamas over violations of last month’s truce. Israeli strikes and militant attacks continue to escalate tensions.
Sources say a Hamas delegation has arrived in Cairo to discuss the Gaza ceasefire.
According to an Egyptian security official and a Hamas representative, the delegation traveled to Cairo on Sunday for talks with mediators involved in the Gaza conflict. The meeting comes at a tense moment, with both Israel and the Palestinian militant group accusing each other of violating the ceasefire agreement.
A Hamas official, speaking on condition of anonymity, said the delegation intends to raise concerns over what they describe as Israel’s “repeated breaches of the ceasefire agreement.”
Egypt, Qatar, and the United States are jointly mediating between Hamas and Israel to uphold the truce that was put in place last month.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu stated on Saturday that Israeli forces killed five senior Hamas members after a fighter was sent into the Israeli-controlled part of Gaza to attack Israeli troops.
Meanwhile, health authorities in Gaza reported that at least 20 people were killed in Israeli airstrikes on Saturday. The Israeli military said a local Hamas commander was among those killed in the strikes.
