Centre Approves ₹137 Crore to Rebuild Mandi–Janjehli Road After Monsoon Damage; ₹38.5 Crore Sanctioned for Beas River Bridge
The Central government has approved ₹137.4 crore under the CRIF scheme to rebuild and upgrade the disaster-hit Mandi–Gagal–Chailchowk–Janjehli road in Seraj, along with ₹38.5 crore for a key double-lane bridge over the Beas River in Kullu. The project aims to restore connectivity, support disaster-affected communities, and boost regional development.
In a major relief for disaster-affected areas of Seraj in Mandi district, the Central government has approved ₹137.4 crore under the Central Road and Infrastructure Fund (CRIF) to rebuild and upgrade the Mandi–Gagal–Chailchowk–Janjehli road, which suffered extensive damage during this year’s devastating monsoon.
A road damaged by landslides in Janjehli, Mandi district, continues to witness vehicle movement despite unsafe conditions.
Public Works Minister Vikramaditya Singh said the scale of destruction in Mandi left the region shaken, with roads washed out, infrastructure damaged, and residents facing severe hardships. Recalling his visit to Thunag during the disaster, he said the devastation strengthened his resolve to restore and improve the region’s infrastructure.
Singh said he discussed the situation with Leader of the Opposition and former Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur, and both leaders raised the matter strongly with the Centre.
Welcoming the approval, the minister said the ₹137.4 crore allocated for rebuilding the 83-km-long vital road link is not just a construction project but a step toward restoring confidence and hope among local communities. “This financial sanction will bring relief to affected families, improve connectivity, and open up new opportunities for development,” he said.
Singh added that the Centre has also approved ₹38.5 crore for constructing a 110-metre, double-lane motorable bridge over the Beas River from Piradi to Talogi in Kullu district—an important project that will significantly enhance regional connectivity.
Former Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur also welcomed the sanction, saying the CRIF approval will greatly strengthen road connectivity in disaster-hit areas. He added that the Centre has approved ₹48.69 crore for upgrading the Jehjon Mod–Tahliwal link road in Una district, which will improve access to the upcoming bulk drug park.
