China Postpones Trilateral Culture Ministers’ Meeting With South Korea and Japan Amid Diplomatic Tensions
China has informed South Korea that it is postponing this month’s planned trilateral meeting of culture ministers with Japan, without offering a reason. The move comes as tensions rise between Beijing and Tokyo following remarks by Japan’s prime minister on how Japan might respond to a hypothetical Chinese attack on Taiwan.
China has postponed a planned trilateral meeting of culture ministers with South Korea and Japan, South Korea’s Culture Ministry said on Thursday.
According to the ministry, Beijing informed Seoul that it would delay the meeting, which was scheduled to take place later this month, but did not provide any explanation for the decision.
The postponement comes at a time of heightened diplomatic friction between China and Japan. Tensions escalated after the Japanese prime minister commented on how Tokyo might respond if China were to launch a hypothetical attack on Taiwan—remarks that drew strong criticism from Beijing.
