IIT Mandi celebrated its 13th Convocation on Thursday at its scenic North Campus in Kamand, marking another milestone in the institute’s rise as a hub of technological innovation.
A total of 604 students received their degrees, including 71 PhD scholars, 245 postgraduate students, and 288 BTech graduates. Notably, more than 25% of the graduating class comprised women.
Prof. Shekhar C. Mande, former Director General of the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), graced the ceremony as the chief guest and delivered an inspiring address. He urged students to pair innovation with empathy and integrity, reminding them that “science without humanity is of little use,” and encouraging graduates to apply technology toward sustainable development and societal welfare.
The ceremony was presided over by IIT Mandi Director Prof. Laxmidhar Behera, with Prof. Budaraju Srinivasa Murty, Director of IIT Hyderabad, and Dr. Jagannath Nayak, Director of CHESS-DRDO, in attendance as guests of honour.
Prof. Behera congratulated the graduating cohort, praising their creativity and commitment to excellence. He noted IIT Mandi’s marked improvement in the NIRF 2025 rankings and highlighted the institute’s growing focus on reverse engineering, regional development, and disaster management initiatives.
This year’s convocation also marked the graduation of the first batches of several new academic programmes, including the BTech-MTech dual degree, BTech with a second major, and BTech with specialization tracks—featuring a pioneering specialization in entrepreneurship. Thirteen students also received the BTech (Honours) degree.
Academic excellence was honoured with top medals: Riya Arora received the President’s Gold Medal and the Institute Silver Medal in Computer Science and Engineering; Vaibhav Kesharwani was awarded the Director’s Gold Medal; and Bhavya received the Institute Gold Medal for postgraduate programmes.
As IIT Mandi strengthens its reputation for research, innovation, and social impact, its 13th Convocation stood as a proud testament to its mission of blending technological advancement with human values to build a sustainable future.
