Fake Social Media Profile Targets Woman Officer in Shimla; FIR Filed Over Objectionable AI-Edited Photos
A woman officer in Shimla has filed an FIR after her fake social media accounts were used to circulate AI-generated objectionable images. Police have registered a case under IPC and IT Act sections and launched an investigation into the cybercrime.
Shimla, November 9: A woman officer in the Himachal Pradesh capital has lodged a police complaint after her fake social media profiles were used to circulate objectionable photos allegedly generated using artificial intelligence.
Acting on her complaint, the New Shimla Women’s Police Station registered an FIR and initiated an investigation, terming it a serious cybercrime.
According to police sources, unidentified individuals created multiple fake accounts on various social media platforms using the officer’s photos. From one such account, an AI-generated and misleading image of the officer was uploaded and subsequently went viral.
The officer reportedly came to know about the viral photo later and immediately informed the police.
Following the complaint, police have registered a case under Sections 78 and 79 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and Section 67(A) of the Information Technology (IT) Act. The matter is under active investigation.
