In a late-night operation on Saturday, Kangra Police seized 200 cases of illicit country liquor from a Bolero pickup and arrested the driver.

Superintendent of Police Ashok Ratan said the seizure was made following a tip-off. Acting on the information, a police team from Panchrukhi police station set up a checkpoint on Badhu Road between Panchrukhi and Andretta. Around midnight, the team intercepted a suspicious Bolero pickup heading towards the area.

A search of the vehicle led to the recovery of 150 cartons of Santra brand liquor and 50 cartons of Una No. 1, totaling nearly 1.8 lakh millilitres. The liquor was seized on the spot.

The driver, identified as Ankit Singh (26) of Mat village in Kangra district, was taken into custody. Police said he is being questioned to trace the source and intended destination of the liquor consignment.

A case has been registered under Section 39(1)(A) of the Himachal Pradesh Excise Act at the Panchrukhi police station, and the pickup vehicle has been impounded.

SP Ratan said that patrolling and traffic checks have been intensified, warning that anyone found involved in the illegal trade of liquor or narcotics would face strict legal action.
