Kangra MP Rajeev Bhardwaj has written to External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar, requesting the establishment of Post Office Passport Seva Kendras (POPSKs) in Nurpur and Chamba to improve access for residents of his parliamentary constituency.

In his letter, Bhardwaj pointed out that passport issuance and renewal facilities are currently available only in Shimla, Palampur, and Kangra, forcing residents of Kangra and Chamba districts to travel long distances for basic services.

He urged the minister to consider setting up new passport service centers at the sub-post offices in Nurpur and Chamba, saying it would bring an essential government service closer to the people.

Speaking to reporters, Bhardwaj said he plans to personally meet Jaishankar soon to press the long-standing demand of the people of Chamba and lower Kangra districts.
He added that POPSKs handle passport application processing, document verification, and biometric data collection — including fingerprints and photographs — making the process faster and more efficient.

Bhardwaj emphasized that during his upcoming visit to New Delhi, he will make every effort to ensure that these facilities are approved and established in Nurpur and Chamba at the earliest.
