In a major breakthrough, the Dharamshala Cyber Crime Police have arrested two fraudsters from Kota, Rajasthan, for allegedly duping a resident of Una district of ₹59.74 lakh through a fake online investment application promising high returns.
The accused have been identified as Vishnu Rawal (28), a resident of Dargah Marg, Qureshi Mohalla, Khairabad, and Abhishek Panchal (36), of Sarvodaya Vihar Colony, Morak Aditya Nagar — both hailing from Kota district in Rajasthan.
The duo was brought to Dharamshala on transit remand and produced before a local court, which remanded them to three days in police custody for further investigation.
According to Cyber Police officials, the case was registered on August 17, 2024, following a complaint from the victim, who had been lured into downloading a fraudulent investment app that promised unusually high profits.
The victim reportedly made 14–15 transactions, transferring a total of ₹59.74 lakh after the scammers allegedly displayed fake profit figures on the app to convince him to invest more.
Working in the private sector, the victim even took bank loans worth ₹20–22 lakh and borrowed additional money from friends and relatives, hoping to recover his funds along with the promised returns.
Additional Superintendent of Police (Cyber Crime) Praveen Dhiman confirmed the arrests, adding that investigators are probing the suspects’ involvement in other similar online investment frauds. He said that several other individuals linked to related scams have also been served notices for questioning.
