Focus on promoting electric vehicles and strengthening essential infrastructure

Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu has directed all administrative secretaries to set clear goals and complete pending tasks to ensure that the benefits of development projects effectively reach the people of Himachal Pradesh.

Chairing a high-level meeting with administrative secretaries in Shimla today, the Chief Minister said the state government is committed to ensuring good governance and improving the quality of life for its citizens. “The Chief Secretary will conduct regular reviews of departmental projects to monitor their progress,” he added.

Sukhu highlighted that the government is prioritizing health, education, rural economy, tourism, energy, food processing, and data storage, while encouraging investment in these sectors. “Major reforms are underway in the health sector to ensure quality treatment near people’s homes,” he said. “All seven state medical colleges are being upgraded with advanced equipment and modern facilities on the lines of AIIMS-Delhi.”

Emphasizing the promotion of electric vehicles, the Chief Minister called for the development of the necessary infrastructure to support their use. He also urged departments to expedite approvals under the Forest Rights Act (FRA) and Forest Conservation Act (FCA) and focus on digitizing their operations for greater efficiency.

Noting that nearly 90 percent of the state’s population lives in villages, Sukhu said the government is committed to strengthening the rural economy. “We have increased milk procurement prices and introduced minimum support prices for naturally grown wheat, maize, barley, and turmeric,” he stated, adding that natural farming can become a major source of income for farmers.

Referring to the heavy losses caused by this year’s monsoon, similar to those in 2023, the Chief Minister said the state government is doing its utmost to provide relief and assistance to every affected family despite limited resources.

He directed the Revenue Department to prepare a detailed report on the damage caused by heavy rainfall and floods at the earliest so that it can be promptly submitted to the central government.

The meeting was attended by Sanjay Gupta, who holds the additional charge of Chief Secretary, Additional Chief Secretaries K.K. Pant and Omkar Chand Sharma, Principal Secretary Devesh Kumar, Secretary to the Chief Minister Rakesh Kanwar, and other senior officials.
