A Himachal Road Transport Corporation (HRTC) bus overturned on the Sanora–Neripul–Chaila road in Rajgarh subdivision this morning after developing a mechanical fault, but the driver’s presence of mind prevented a serious disaster.

The accident occurred around 8 a.m. near Dhali when the vehicle’s suspension rod snapped, causing it to lose balance.

According to eyewitnesses, the driver reacted swiftly and deliberately steered the bus toward the hillside, ensuring it toppled onto the road rather than plunging into a steep gorge. His timely decision averted what could have been a far greater tragedy.

Police confirmed that eight passengers were on board at the time. The driver, conductor, and one female passenger sustained minor injuries. Local residents rushed them to Theog Hospital in Shimla district in private vehicles.

Following the mishap, the Sanora–Neripul–Chaila road remained blocked until noon, leading to a major traffic jam on both sides. Later, Rajgarh police deployed a crane to remove the bus and restore traffic.

Rajgarh Station House Officer (SHO) Rajvinder Singh confirmed the technical fault and praised the driver’s alertness.
“The driver acted wisely and ensured the bus did not fall into the gorge. With the help of a crane, the bus was removed and traffic has now been restored,” he said.
