Several vehicles were washed away, and numerous homes, fields, and orchards were damaged when a sudden cloudburst hit Thach village in the Nichar sub-division of Kinnaur district on Thursday night. Residents evacuated their homes under the cover of darkness to reach safer locations.

Hari Bhagat, head of the Tranda Gram Panchayat, said, “Water entered some houses, causing partial damage. One road has also been severely affected.” Fortunately, no casualties were reported in the incident.

Revenue Minister Jagat Singh Negi has instructed the Revenue, Water Resources, Horticulture, and Public Works Departments to immediately deploy teams to the village and prepare a detailed report on the damages caused by the cloudburst. Kinnaur Deputy Commissioner Amit Kumar Sharma inspected the ongoing reconstruction work in the village, offered solace to affected families, and assured them of all possible assistance.

According to the Meteorological Department, rainfall is expected to decrease significantly from today. Light rain may occur in some areas over the next two days, followed by dry weather across the state for the subsequent two to three days. Maximum temperatures are likely to rise gradually by 2°C to 4°C over the next four to five days, while minimum temperatures are expected to remain unchanged.

The monsoon typically withdraws from the state by the last week of September. The State Disaster Management Authority (SDMA) reports that 425 roads, including three national highways, remain closed to traffic. Additionally, 107 power distribution transformers and 185 water supply schemes are yet to be restored.
