21 intern doctors have come forward with similar complaints.

A case of alleged sexual harassment has emerged at Dr. Yashwant Singh Parmar Government Medical College in Nahan, Himachal Pradesh, after an intern doctor accused a security guard of misconduct.

The matter escalated when 20 other intern doctors submitted signed complaints to the college principal, accusing the same guard of similar behavior. Following an internal inquiry conducted by the college’s sexual harassment committee, the case was formally referred to the police.

Speaking to The Tribune, College Principal Dr. S. S. Dogra confirmed that the incident was first brought to the attention of the Head of the Orthopedics Department on September 5 by the intern doctors and their association. The complaint was subsequently forwarded to the Joint Director of the college, who suspended the accused guard on the same day. Dr. Dogra further stated that the matter reached his office the following Monday, after which he immediately instructed the sexual harassment committee to investigate. Although a written complaint from the interns was submitted later, the inquiry had already been initiated by that time.

Based on the committee’s findings, the police registered a case. Sirmaur’s Superintendent of Police, Nishchint Singh Negi, confirmed that on September 7, the Head of the ENT Department—who also serves as the Chairperson of the Internal Complaints Committee under the POSH Act, 2013—filed a formal complaint with the police.

The SP said, “A total of 21 intern doctors have alleged that the security guard engaged in inappropriate behavior, made offensive remarks, and carried out acts akin to sexual harassment.”

Based on the complaints, the police have registered a case under Sections 75, 78, and 79 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). Authorities further stated that the statements of the affected interns will be recorded before a magistrate under Section 183 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, Criminal Procedure.

Police officials confirmed that all necessary legal procedures are being followed and that the investigation is ongoing.
