A 28-year-old police constable has been dismissed from service after being found guilty of involvement in drug trafficking.

Constable Lalit Kanwar of the Himachal Pradesh Police was removed from service following a departmental inquiry that confirmed his participation in narcotics-related activities.

The case came to light on May 16 when a 31-year-old man, Harish Sharma, was arrested by the Dharampur Police for possession of heroin. After registering a case under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, the police began investigating the network behind the illegal trade. The investigation revealed that the constable was involved in the supply chain, having facilitated payment to the drug supplier through a mobile app.

Lalit Kanwar, a resident of Jabli village, was arrested on June 19, and a departmental inquiry was launched against him. The investigation confirmed his involvement in the offense, which violated departmental discipline and conduct rules.

Solan’s Superintendent of Police, Gaurav Singh, stated, “Even though the Himachal Pradesh government follows a zero-tolerance policy toward drug trafficking, such misconduct from within the department cannot be tolerated.”

Explaining the department’s anti-drug initiatives, the SP added, “The police are taking strict action against those involved in this nefarious activity. We are targeting both supply and demand to dismantle the drug trade.”
