Himachal Landslide: One Dead in Kullu’s Akhara Bazaar, Search for Five Missing Continues

(04/09/2025)
Rescue teams, including personnel from the District Disaster Management Authority, local police, and the district administration, are continuing operations to trace five people still trapped under the debris.
Officials confirmed that a devastating landslide struck Kullu district’s Inner Akhara Bazaar this morning, burying at least nine people under heavy mud and rubble.
Triggered by days of relentless rainfall, the landslide has caused widespread panic and destruction in the area. According to Kullu Superintendent of Police (SP) Kathikeyan Gokulchandran, one body has been recovered, while three seriously injured individuals were rescued and rushed to the regional hospital in Kullu for urgent medical care.
The landslide swept through nearly two residential houses in the densely populated Inner Akhara Bazaar, leaving residents shocked early in the morning.
Emergency teams have been working tirelessly since the incident, but poor weather conditions and the treacherous terrain are severely hampering efforts.
Tragically, just a day earlier on Wednesday, another landslide hit the same area, burying two people under debris. Despite continuous search operations, they remain untraced.
The back-to-back incidents highlight the growing threat of landslides across Himachal Pradesh’s hill districts, worsened this monsoon season by persistent heavy rainfall. Several regions across the state have reported similar disasters, leading to extensive damage to public infrastructure and private property.
Authorities have issued warnings to residents in vulnerable areas, urging them to remain vigilant and avoid traveling through high-risk zones. Further updates are awaited as the situation unfolds.
