Continuous heavy rainfall over the past few days has severely impacted road connectivity in several parts of Himachal Pradesh, with the Chamba–Bharmaur road among the worst affected. The downpour has triggered multiple landslides and road cave-ins, leaving commuters stranded and hampering essential movement across the region.

Local authorities confirmed that the Chamba–Bharmaur stretch has been blocked at several points due to falling debris and waterlogging. Public transport services remain suspended, while emergency vehicles are moving with difficulty. Residents have expressed concern over the prolonged disruption, as the road serves as a crucial link between remote villages and Chamba town.

“Clearing operations are underway, but intermittent rain is slowing progress. Heavy machinery has been deployed, and efforts are being made to restore at least single-lane traffic within the next 48 hours,” an official from the Public Works Department said.

The disruption has also affected the supply of essential goods, with local markets reporting shortages of vegetables, milk, and fuel. Farmers in the Bharmaur region, who were in the middle of transporting produce, have suffered significant losses due to the road blockade.

Meanwhile, the State Disaster Management Authority has issued advisories urging residents and tourists to avoid unnecessary travel in affected districts. Schools in low-lying areas of Chamba have been temporarily closed as a precaution.

Meteorological officials have warned that moderate to heavy rainfall is likely to continue in the coming days, raising fears of further landslides and flash floods in hilly terrain. Authorities are maintaining a high alert and have stationed rescue teams in vulnerable areas.

The Chamba–Bharmaur road remains under close watch, as residents wait anxiously for normalcy to be restored.
