The Assembly witnessed heated exchanges over the use of “unparliamentary and objectionable” words, leading the Speaker to adjourn proceedings until 2 p.m.
Speaker Pathania ruled that the word “corruption” cannot be used unless supported by evidence. He also ordered the removal from Assembly records of remarks targeting the previous BJP government over concessions given to investors.
Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu urged the Speaker not to expunge his remarks, asserting that the government has proof of irregularities in concessions granted during the previous regime.
Delivering his ruling, Speaker Pathania said the House would be conducted strictly as per rules. “Derogatory allegations made without citing relevant provisions will not be allowed. Inflammatory or offensive words that cause tension will not form part of the record,” he clarified.
He also dismissed Sudhir Sharma’s privilege notice against the Chief Minister, stating that it was submitted without evidence.
Leader of Opposition Jai Ram Thakur strongly objected to the charges relating to special packages given to investors during the BJP government’s tenure.
As the uproar continued, the Speaker adjourned the House.
