402 Roads Shut in Himachal Amid Heavy Rains; Power and Water Supply Disrupted

Torrential rainfall has brought Himachal Pradesh to a standstill, with 402 roads, including two national highways, closed to vehicular traffic. Power and water supply have also been severely affected across several districts.

According to the State Emergency Operation Centre, Mandi district has been the worst hit, with 221 roads closed, including NH-03. This is followed by Kullu with 102 roads (including NH-305), Chamba with 24, Kangra with 21, Una with 12, Sirmaur with nine, Shimla with eight, Bilaspur and Kinnaur with two each, and Lahaul-Spiti with one.

Power supply has also taken a major hit, with 208 electricity distribution transformers out of service—134 in Mandi, 26 in Chamba, 23 in Kinnaur, 17 in Kullu, six in Kangra, and one each in Shimla and Lahaul-Spiti. Water supply schemes have been disrupted as well, with 51 affected in total—36 in Mandi, eight in Kangra, five in Hamirpur, and two in Lahaul-Spiti.

The Meteorological Department has forecast more heavy rainfall on Sunday. An orange alert has been issued for Mandi, Kangra, Chamba, and Kullu districts, while Una, Hamirpur, Bilaspur, and Lahaul-Spiti are under a yellow alert.
