Heavy damage due to flash flood in Kataula tehsil
Mandi, August 17: Heavy rainfall on Friday night and Saturday morning has caused widespread destruction in Kataula tehsil of the Drang assembly constituency. Several areas reported flash floods, leading to a sharp rise in the water level of rivers and streams, which in turn damaged nearby houses and farmlands. In Gram Panchayat Shegli, a house was swept away, while reports confirm that the bridge connecting Kataula to Mahur has also been washed away by the strong currents.
The situation near Arang School in Baderi has been described as extremely alarming. According to reports, multiple vehicles have been washed away, crops have been completely destroyed, and there are also accounts of livestock being swept off. The Baggi Khad stream is in full spate, and the rising water has created a sense of panic among residents. Authorities have urged people to remain alert and move to safer locations.
Fortunately, no loss of human life has been reported so far. Anticipating the severity of the rains, locals had already taken shelter in safer areas, which helped prevent casualties. Administrative teams are on-site to assess the extent of the damage, while machinery has been deployed to carry out relief and rescue operations.
