Tragic Independence Day Morning Accident on Dharamshala–Chamunda Road Claims Four Lives

Dharamshala, August 15 –
While the nation celebrated Independence Day with patriotic fervor, a tragic incident cast a shadow over the festivities in Himachal Pradesh’s Kangra district. At around 7:29 a.m., YOL police outpost received information that a pickup vehicle (PB 030-9646) had plunged off the road near Ikku Morh on the Chamunda–Dharamshala route. The vehicle was carrying pilgrims from Moga, Punjab.
Preliminary reports indicate that about 29 passengers were on board. One woman died on the spot, while three others — a woman and two men — succumbed to their injuries during treatment at Dr. Rajendra Prasad Medical College, Tanda. Police immediately launched rescue operations, transporting the injured to Tanda Hospital. Senior officials, including the Station House Officer, rushed directly to the hospital. Three of the injured remain in critical condition, while 22 are reported to be out of danger.
Additional Superintendent of Police Veer Bahadur confirmed that the accident claimed four lives in total — two men and two women. The remaining injured are undergoing treatment. He stated that the accident appears to have occurred when the driver lost control, possibly misjudging an upcoming bend, causing the vehicle to veer off the road.
