Shimla, August 14
Displaying extraordinary courage during Operation Sindoor, Flight Lieutenant Arshveer Singh Thakur, a resident of Jakhol village in Jubbal, Shimla district, has been chosen by the Government of India for the nation’s third-highest gallantry award – the Vir Chakra.

Arshveer played a decisive role in the mission that targeted and destroyed terrorist bases in Bahawalpur and Muridke, Pakistan, delivering a major blow to militant operations and showcasing India’s strategic strength on the global stage. Notably, he is the only officer of the Flight Lieutenant rank to be honoured with the Vir Chakra for this operation.

Born into a family deeply rooted in sports and discipline, Arshveer’s father, Narveer Singh Thakur, is a retired officer of the Himachal Pradesh State Electricity Board and a skilled volleyball and cricket player as well as a coach. His mother, Amarjeet Kaur, is a physical education teacher at a government school in Shimla and a volleyball coach. This environment of discipline and excellence helped shape Arshveer’s determination and pursuit of achievement from an early age.
