BCS Kidnapping Case: Fake Number Plate, Blindfolded Children, Threats with Pistol and Sharp Weapons
Sumit Sood accused
Shimla, August 13 – A sensational twist has emerged in the kidnapping case involving three Class 6 students of the prestigious Bishop Cotton Boarding School in Shimla. Police have revealed that the accused, Sumit Sood, a resident of Kotkhai in Shimla district, acted alone in executing the crime.
According to police, on Saturday he abducted three 11-year-old boys when they were on an outing. A short distance from the school premises, he lured them into a car fitted with a fake number plate and drove towards Kufri. Along the way, he threatened them, saying, “You have all been kidnapped.”
Inside the car, he had kept rope, sharp-edged weapons, and his father’s revolver. To intimidate the children, he brandished the pistol and waved the weapons. He blindfolded them so they could not identify their location and even made them remove their shirts to avoid drawing attention to their school uniforms while in the vehicle.
After taking down the phone numbers of the children’s parents, the accused called one boy’s father, pretending that he himself had been abducted and was being forced to cooperate. The call went as follows:
Sumit Sood: “They’ve caught me too. They’re forcing me to do all this… very dangerous people. Just wait for my next call. Please make sure this doesn’t become news in school—if it does, it will be very difficult for your son to return.”
Child’s father: “Are you in Chandigarh or Mohali right now?”
Sumit Sood: “Sir, I can’t tell you anything. They’ve treated me badly. Just wait for the next call, anytime.”
The investigation has revealed that the accused had suffered losses in online trading and hatched the kidnapping plot to extort ransom. He kept the children at his home in Kotkhai. The following day, police raided the house, arrested him, and safely recovered all three boys—one from Mohali (Punjab), one from Karnal (Haryana), and one from Kullu (Himachal Pradesh). The boy from Mohali is reportedly a relative of a Punjab minister.
Currently, Sumit Sood is in two-day police custody. On Tuesday, the police took him to the crime scenes to reconstruct events. His remand ends Wednesday, after which he will be produced in court. Police say they are collecting strong evidence and will file a chargesheet at the earliest.
