Congress Leader Monty Garg Served ₹1.25 Crore Defamation Notice for Tarnishing Dr. Bindal’s Image on Facebook
Nahan, August 10
Himachal Pradesh BJP President and former Speaker of the State Assembly, Dr. Rajeev Bindal, has issued a legal notice for defamation to former Nahan Municipal Councillor and Congress leader Kapil alias Monty Garg. The notice alleges that Monty Garg posted false, misleading, and derogatory content on Facebook and other social media platforms, causing serious harm to Dr. Bindal’s reputation.
According to the notice, Dr. Bindal served as Speaker of the Himachal Pradesh Assembly from January 2018, has been elected twice from the Nahan Assembly constituency, and earlier served three terms as MLA from Solan. He has also held the position of State Health Minister and has been actively engaged in social and religious activities for many years. He is currently the President of the Himachal Pradesh BJP.
The notice states that Monty Garg, affiliated with the Congress Party, posted several objectionable and defamatory statements about Dr. Bindal on Facebook, driven by political differences. These posts, which included Dr. Bindal’s photographs alongside allegations of corruption, fabricated false narratives and intensified particularly when discussions arose about his possible appointment as the next Himachal BJP chief. Many people, believing these posts to be true, reacted with comments, further aggravating the situation.
Dr. Bindal asserts that these posts have damaged his standing among the BJP high command, his supporters, and the general public. Describing the loss as irreparable, he has valued the damages at ₹1.25 crore.
The notice demands that Monty Garg issue an unconditional apology within 15 days, publish it on his Facebook account, other social media platforms, as well as in Himachal Pradesh and national newspapers. Failing this, legal proceedings will be initiated to claim the damages.
