Hamirpur, August 2: It was a moment of pride for the Hamirpur district as five police personnel were awarded the Excellence in Service Medal by the Union Ministry of Home Affairs for their commendable service. The recipients of this prestigious honour include Head Constables Rita Devi, Nirmal Singh, Rajkumari, Ravi Kumar, and Himani Chauhan.
A special felicitation ceremony was held on Saturday at the Police Lines complex, where Deputy Commissioner Amarjeet Singh, Superintendent of Police Bhagat Singh Thakur, and other senior officials presented the medals to the awardees.
Speaking on the occasion, DC Amarjeet Singh congratulated the medal recipients and remarked that this achievement is a significant honour for a relatively small district like Hamirpur. He said the recognition would serve as an inspiration for other police personnel to work with renewed dedication, integrity, and enthusiasm.
He also lauded the functioning of the district police, highlighting several welfare initiatives introduced under SP Bhagat Singh Thakur, including improvements in police canteen services, enhanced sports facilities, and linking salary accounts to insurance schemes for better security and benefits.
Earlier, SP Bhagat Singh Thakur welcomed the awardees and their families. He explained that the Excellence in Service Medal scheme was launched by the Ministry of Home Affairs in 2019-20, with a transparent and structured evaluation process. He said all five honourees have demonstrated exceptional dedication in their respective roles and are role models for the entire police force.
The ceremony concluded with a vote of thanks by ASP Rajesh Kumar, who expressed gratitude to the chief guest, all dignitaries, and the medal recipients. Among those present were ADC Abhishek Garg, Vigilance ASP Renu Sharma, SDM Sanjeet Singh, Home Guards Commandant Vinay Kumar, DSP Nitin Chauhan, Harish Guleria, and several other officers.
